Abhyanga Massage Training

Abhyanga is a traditional Ayurvedic full-body oil massage that aims to balance the doshas, enhance circulation, and promote overall well-being. 


Learning Abhyanga involves a combination of theoretical understanding, practical hands-on training, and an appreciation for Ayurvedic principles.


This course provides a structured approach to learning Abhyanga, covering the foundational knowledge, hands-on techniques, and practical considerations needed for a comprehensive understanding of this Ayurvedic massage therapy. Hands-on training with experienced instructors is essential for acquiring the necessary skills and proficiency in performing Abhyanga.

Assessment

  • 5 case studies 
  • Final exam (theory and practical)


Certification

  • Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate in Ayurveda Abhyanga Massage.

Course Outline - (30 hours)


Module 1: Introduction to Ayurveda and Abhyanga - 2 Hours

  • Overview of Ayurveda and its principles
  • Historical context of Abhyanga in Ayurvedic traditions
  • The concept of doshas and their impact on health


Module 2: Anatomy and Physiology for Abhyanga - 3 Hours

  • Understanding the human body from an Ayurvedic perspective
  • Identification of marma points relevant to Abhyanga
  • Correlation between doshas and bodily functions


Module 3: Types of Abhyanga - 1 Hour

  • Traditional Abhyanga with warm oils 
  • Tailored Abhyanga for different dosha imbalances 
  • Herbal-infused oils and their specific benefits 


Module 4: Selection and Preparation of Oils - 2 Hours

  • Properties of various oils used in Abhyanga 
  • Ayurvedic herbs and their therapeutic effect
  • Creating personalized oil blends for specific needs 


Module 5: Abhyanga Techniques - 5 Hours

  • Hands-on training for Abhyanga massage strokes 
  • Full-body sequence and specific focus areas 
  • Adjusting pressure and rhythm based on individual needs 


Module 6: Contraindications and Safety - 1 Hours

  • Recognizing contraindications for Abhyanga 
  • Ensuring client safety and comfort 
  • Adapting techniques for special populations (e.g., pregnancy, elderly)


Module 7: Energetic Principles of Abhyanga - 3 Hours

  • Balancing prana (life force) through Abhyanga
  • Connection between Abhyanga, chakras, and doshas 
  • Enhancing energy flow and vitality 


Module 8: Ayurvedic Assessment for Abhyanga - 2 Hours

  • Client consultation and dosha analysis
  • Tailoring Abhyanga treatments based on individual constitutions 
  • Developing treatment plans for specific health concerns


Module 9: Integrating Abhyanga into Ayurvedic Wellness - 1 Hours

  • Incorporating Abhyanga into daily and seasonal routines
  • Ayurvedic lifestyle recommendations for optimal benefits
  • Complementing Abhyanga with other Ayurvedic practices


Module 10: Practical Applications and Case Studies

  • Hands-on practice sessions for students
  • Supervised application of Abhyanga techniques 
  • Analyzing and discussing case studies


Module 11: Business and Ethical Considerations - 1 Hours

  • Establishing a professional Abhyanga practice 
  • Adhering to ethical guidelines and standards 
  • Marketing and promoting Abhyanga services 


Module 12: Final Assessment and Certification

  • Practical and theoretical assessments
  • Case study presentation
  • Certification and ongoing support


Class structures

  1. Theory -  Online via Zoom. All classes will be recorded and a link to view it again will be sent at the end of each session for your review. The recordings will be available to view up until the end of your course. 
  2. Practical options for deeper understanding if needed - in person. Location: Skylit Ayurveda Center
